Mexicali Rose is a Richmond institution for lovers of fine Mexican food having been around for some 30 years. Lori Horton has owned it for the past 8 years now, and continues to offer the same authentic dishes that were served all those years ago as well as Nuevo cocina dishes too. The use of the freshest produce and the importance on visual presentation of every dish is of top priority.

Whilst there has almost always been the token Mexican staff member, for the past couple of years now Lori has added to the authenticity and atmosphere of the restaurant by recruiting a number of Mexicans, Colombians and other Latin Americans. They are all very friendly and always more than happy to have a conversation or take your order in their native Spanish language.

Having recently just expanded, there is now a fabulous new and very spacious Mexican Bar which is definitely worth a visit to sip on a delicious Margarita or Mexican Beer.

The Essendon location has been owned by the family since 1994, and in 2007 became Mexicali Cantina, the sister restaurant to Mexicali Rose.

Lori and her talented team have been creating Mexican-style dishes and beverages for many years, and Lori's family have a proud tradition of being involved in Mexican restaurants over 30 years. The food is scrumptious and portions are generous enough to satisfy even the biggest of appetites. The rustic decors are enhanced by the yellow and blue coloured walls and arches. The cocktail menu is vast and your bar host will prepare you a hand-shaken Margarita or you can select from thirty five imported tequilas. For tongue-tingling taste sensation, indulge in an entree of enchiladas and a main course beef fajitas or a chicken chimichanga.
